TIPS FROM OUR DESIGNERS

Before selecting hardwood for your home, do your research:

 

Hardwood creates a wonderful look in your home, and with so many species and colours available, you can really choose from a variety of hardwoods to suit your style.  But like any type of flooring selection, there things that you need to consider and be educated on to make an well-informed decision.

 

 

Different species of wood have different characteristics, colour, graining, and hardness.  Depending on your lifestyle, you will want to choose wisely.  If you have a very busy life with a lot of traffic in your home, you will want to think about choosing a hard wood just as hickory for your home.  Something lighter in colour and with a lot of variation, will be more forgiving.  But remember: no hard wood is scratch proof.  All wood may dent and scratch.

 

 

 

There is also the difference of solid wood vs. Engineered.  Engineered wood is becoming more popular for many reasons.  It is more environmentally friendly as it is using less wood, and it will expand and contract less than a ¾” solid hardwood.  However, it is essential will all hardwood to have a humidifier!!  Your humidity should be between %35-%55 at all times.  If this is not consistent, you will have a lot of movement, gapping and swelling of the boards.

 

 

Hardwood remains to be a very a number one seller and adds value to your home.  Wood is a natural product that may have some imperfections, and that is the beauty in it!  Thank you!

If you have a wall in your home, perhaps a stairwell, or end of a hallway that you would like to add some interest to, try colour blocking.  I have found Frog  Tape works the best for making sure your lines are crisp and clean!  This would also be great in a nursery or kids room!  It is amazing how paint can change the feeling of your space!

Try giving something old a new look. Paint it black! Find something around your home that needs an update or check out your local Re-store. Try using a matte and gloss paint in the same color to add some detail to your piece. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. Have fun and get creative!

Try switching around decorative items from other rooms of your house.  Pull the throw and vase out of your bedroom, and cozy up your home office!  Sometimes this can be just the change your room was needing to freshen up the look and inspire you to get creative!  Small changes can create a whole new look!  Thank you!
